City map of Warsaw
In spring 2016 my boyfriend and me travelled to Poland for the first time. My boyfriend wanted to do some genealogy and I didn't mind going to a country I hadn't been before. To be honest I didn't expect much...and I was so wrong! Poland welcomed me – modern, friendly, deliciously and quite accessible! No wonder that it didn't take us too long to come back. After we stayed in Wroclaw and Poznan in 2016 we decided to go up north this time. Our destinations: Warsaw and Gdansk.
My first plan was to go there by train, switching trains in Berlin. First because I wanted to keep this trip within budget and second because I tend to be a nervous flyer at times. It turned out that I couldn't find cheap train tickets. And the connections I found included several switches with short connecting time which one with a wheelchair should avoid.

So here I was. Friday morning. Stuttgart Airport. Eurowings should take us to Wroclaw. From there we wanted to take the train to Warsaw. Luckily we didn't have to catch an early flight, though. Although putting me on a plane doesn't always work out so well, I find it exciting to start a journey at the airport. So many people. So many options. Just looking at the display panel with the departures gives me goosebumps.
After the usual pat-down and testing for explosives at security we still had time to stroll through the terminal. We went to the gate 15 minutes before boarding started. The guys from the ground service came to pick us up with an AmbuLift.

They always make me smile. I never met a grumpy person working at ground service. One of the guys asked us where we were heading to. He didn't know Wroclaw. And he warned us not to smoke cheap hookah because a friend of his had done so and suffered from pneumonia afterwards...good to know.
In the AmbuLift we crossed the airfield. There she was. The Dash 8. My first turboprop airliner. My boyfriend liked the fact that it still had the red and white Air Berlin look.

I like arriving at the plane before everyone else does. Everything is calm for a moment and you are able to get settled. After boarding was completed only half the seats were taken. The propellers started humming and we made our way past the Delta aircarft to Atlanta,...

...just to take off shortly afterwards. Blue sky, sunshine, no turbulences – that's how I like air travel. Continue here.
