In recent years my train travelling took me to the UK or to theme parks. Direction north. Not this time. Our destination? Vienna in Austria. Why? Because it is full of delicious food! We found a train connection via Nuremberg for a reasonable price. I was happy to see a new Intercity train pull in. These new trains are modern and fully accessible.

And our train was 10 minutes late. 10 minutes that we needed to switch trains in Nuremberg. Although an announcement told us that everyone would make it to the connecting train to Vienna, we didn't. Arriving in Nuremberg a railway employee welcommed us and told us we had to wait for an hour to take the next train. At least enough time to go to the restroom and get some snacks. A passing view at historic Nuremberg with its town wall and the Intercity-Express with the fancy name 'Berolina' approached.

Older Intercity-Expresses have the wheelchair spaces in first class, 'Berolina' did not. The wheelchair space was close to the boarding area and restrooms and therefore it was fairly busy the whole trip.

My boyfriend slept and so I could not avoid to listen to a girl talking next to us. She and a group of drama students were going to an audition. The girl hated improvisation theatre and she was put out by the question which theatre company was her favorite one. The rest of the group kept quiet. The stage was hers. For the remaining trip I read a book and listened to some music. In no time the ticket collector announced that we would arrive in Vienna shortly. He was the most motivated announcer we have ever heard and we did not know whether he had worked at a carnival ride or a game show before. Sadly we didn't not win a thing.

In Vienna we stayed at the hip 25hours hotel next to the Museumsquartier, a lively area in the 7th district of the city of Vienna. Our room had a crazy circus theming with a big accessible bathroom.

After unpacking we went to the 'Amerlingbeisl', a typical Austrian tavern. Perfect for a down-to-earth dinner. Assorted cold cuts, cheese, white wine in a green patio. Hello holiday!

Ice cream for dessert? For sure! For unusual flavours, like cucumber and lemon or guacamole go to 'Schelato'. Finally I found a salted caramel that is actually salted!

It was a warm summer evening and we decided to talk a walk to the Hofburg and the St. Stehpan's Cathedral.

Just as we entered the giant nave, we realized that the cathedral was about to close for the day.

Step by step the light was turned off until only the flickering flames of the small candles was left. A moment to remember. Good night Vienna. Continue here.
